Hosts Portugal come into this tie on fine form. They’ve won their last five games, including the opening two games of their World Cup Qualifiers. Roberto Martinez’s side thrashed Armenia 5-0 in their first game, but needed a late goal from Joao Cancelo to beat Hungary. The Nations League champions boast an incredibly talented side. Premier League stars such as Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva are supported by Champions League winners like João Neves and Vitinha, making Portugal one of the best international sides in the world. With Cristiano Ronaldo still leading the line, they are a tough task for any opposition.

The Republic of Ireland head to Lisbon coming off a disappointing loss to Armenia in their second game of the World Cup Qualifiers. The visitors managed to take a point in their first game but needed a late goal from Adam Idah against ten-man Hungary to do so. Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side will be hoping to bounce back this Saturday, but their opposition will certainly not make it easy for them. Ireland may need some goalkeeping heroics from star number 1, Caoimhín Kelleher, if they are to keep a clean sheet in their first away fixture of the World Cup qualifying process.

Portugal come into this match as strong favourites, at 2/13 to win the match. You can also back them at 1/7 in our 2-Up Early Payout market, which pays out if your team goes two goals up at any point during the match.
Visitors Ireland are the underdogs in this one, currently sat at 22/1 to win the match, or 18/1 in our 2-Up market. Alternatively, you can back a draw at 5/1.
The two sides have met 16 times before, with Portugal typically having the better of the matchup. Their last encounter, an international friendly, ended with a resounding 3-0 win for Portugal, and the Irish haven’t beaten their opponents since 2005, when Andy O’Brien scored the winning goal.

We also offer a number of spread betting markets for Sunday’s clash, including our “Goal Supremacy” market. This market currently has Portugal favoured comfortably by 2.2-2.4 goals. This means that if you placed a “buy” bet, you would need Portugal to win by at least three goals to start turning a profit. A three-goal victory for the hosts would win you 0.6 times your stake, a four-goal win 1.6 times your stake, and so on.
However, if you bought and Portugal drew or lost, or won by fewer than three goals, you would lose money. Here, a draw would cost you 2.4 times your stake, and a one-goal loss would cost you 3.4 times your stake.
You can also bet on the total number of goals scored during the game with our Total Goals market. This is currently set at 3.15-3.35. If you’re expecting a high-scoring match, you could buy and would then need at least four goals to start turning a profit. Alternatively, if you expect the defences to be on top, you could “sell” and would need three goals or fewer to turn a profit.
If you sold and the game ended 3-0, as it did the last time the sides met, you would win 0.15 times your stake. However, if you sold and the game ended as a comfortable 5-0 win, you would lose 1.85 times your stake. It’s important to remember that when spread betting, if your bet loses, you can lose multiples of your stake, so be sure to choose appropriate stake sizes for each market.

Both these sides have required late goals in recent matches, whether it was to salvage a draw or to claim a late winner. If you’re expecting more last-minute action, the current spread for Total Goal Minutes is set at 160-170.
Portugal won their most recent game against Hungary despite going a goal down early in the game. You can back the hosts to win from behind again at 15/2, or back Republic of Ireland to do the same at 50/1.
